James V. Weixel, Jr., Of Counsel
Jim Weixel, of counsel to Kronenberger Burgoyne, concentrates on appellate and complex commercial litigation, particularly as those areas relate to privacy, defamation and technology. Jim has great interest in the complex intersection of the Internet and the law. "Appellate practice in the emerging area of Internet law is particularly exciting due to the evolving nature of the case law on technology and new media matters," Jim says. "For those same reasons, it's an interesting and intellectually fulfilling area of practice."
Jim has been one of the principal attorneys in a number of appellate cases resulting in the vindication of his clients' rights of free speech, economic competition and privacy. He has successfully prosecuted and defended several appeals under California's "anti-SLAPP" law, which protects the First Amendment right to free speech. Jim also has been involved in complex and large-scale commercial litigation, first at Cleveland's Baughman & Associates, and then at the San Francisco office of Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold.
From 2002 through 2006, Jim was a name partner at Trevor & Weixel LLP, in Marin County, California. Since then, he has practiced independently, and as consulting counsel to a number of firms in California and other states. Jim, a native of Cleveland, is a 1986 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 1990 from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. He is a member of the state bars of California and Ohio, and is admitted to the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth and Sixth Circuits, all district courts in California, and the Northern District of Ohio. Jim also is active in the Bar Association of San Francisco, where he served on the board of directors from 2006 through 2008, and on the board of directors of the Conference of Delegates of California Bar Associations.
